Management of Acute Bacterial Skin and Skin Structure Infections (ABSSSI)
Many patients with ABSSSI may not require inpatient treatment and could be treated on an outpatient basis with oral antibacterial drugs.1
Outpatient settings may include primary care office, urgent care centers, or wound care centers.
Considerations for treatment
Infection severity, severe comorbidities, and age (≥75 years of age) can influence the treatment location decision. Mild ABSSSI and adherence most strongly influenced all treatment decisions to outpatient care.2
Outpatient management strategies
Management strategies for outpatient ABSSSI treatment include close follow-up care and oral antibacterial drugs.1
